Pumpkin Painting Party!

We are less than a week away from Halloween and it's high time for the pumpkins to be carved, decorated or arranged. I have taken my pumpkins to my office job to greet the passerbys and liven up my space.

The neat trick I worked with in this mini painting session with my friend Liz was to use blue painter's tape to block out the spaces for the jack-o-lantern faces and then we could paint the rest of the pumpkin with acrylic paint, however we pleased! This proved to be a bit less stressful then designing a full face with just a paint brush and way less clean up than if we had carved!

The pumpkins had a couple of tricks to them - we realized bigger pieces of tape were a bit better, a clean press down and light sponge brush movements near the edges were important. and careful removal of the tape was crucial to the overall effect. I found that after it was all dry, I wanted to add details in black glitter paint to give it some more dimensionality. The acrylic paint could use a clear coat to give the seal more durability but I enjoy the matte effect of the black contrasting with the glitter.

Etsy Shop

And we've gone live! Testing a couple different ways to list the watercolor paintings I did each day of last week. Of course, if you like, comment or share my images from this week on facebook - you are entered to win (winner chosen on Monday 10/27)... but the left over images go for sale on my Etsy shop for $15 each, such a steal! This batch is 6 inches by 4.5 inches on repurposed heavy cardstock.

One bit of sad news - the top middle image below has gone to our weekly winner, so 10/15 is no longer available. If your heart was dead set on that imagery, I would be happy to make a new one with slight variations to your specified size - just contact me.

And the Winner is...

Congratulations Diane H. in southwest Florida!

As the first winner of my weekly painting process she gets to choose one of the paintings made between and inclusive of the dates of 10/14-10/19. The paintings are posted on my facebook page, if you haven't been there - go check it out. And she entered to win by liking, commenting or sharing any of the paintings from that week.

Less than a month until my boyfriend comes back from his most recent training. It hasn't been as long as it could have been, but it's still tough. The pictures that I have of us are turning into 2D reminders only, without the memories of the feel, touch and sounds. Definitely sure it is gonna be difficult the next time he is gone (a longer time frame).

I am grateful for the people who support me in my art and I am grateful for the process where I have been creating paintings each day, the routine is delightful for me, Routines are hard for me, but I am learning.

One of Your Very Own

This week in my world of Chelsea Rose Art, I am bringing art to the masses! Well, as many of the masses as are involved in my facebook page and blog.

I am painting a mini painting each day. I will post the work each day and I will choose next Monday on the person who will be able to choose one of the paintings of the week for free - the other paintings will be loaded on to my etsy shop site for $15 each.

If you're feeling lucky and the artwork appeals to you, like comment or share for your chance to win! Of course, like the facebook page to get updates in your newsfeed about the new artworks.

The mini paintings are 4.5 x 6 inches mixed media of colored pencils and watercolor. I have been blessed with a million memories of sunsets and crazy skies as I grew up on the west coast of Florida. Although I do not always replicate a realistic take on the sky - I love to use it as inspiration to combine colors. For that I thank my mother, who never skipped on a chance to run to the ocean and take a moment to relax.

In other news, the magazine layout period is in full swing. I am learning tips and tricks to make the articles look like they belong in the magazine and puzzle piecing it all together.

Fabulous Friday

Hello all!
This week has been so full of change and opportunity! And I truly appreciate all the support I am beginning to receive.

In the works I am going to be a layout graphic designer for Natural Awakenings Magazine, I am talking to people about painting a mural at a local gym (mystery location until it's more set in stone). Looking at offering programming at a local non-profit center for youth and coming up with creative session ideas for peers and adults!

Also - have some daily give away's happening over on my Facebook Page so, come check me out!

It's Halloween soon, so I'd love to host some pumpkin carving or decorating sessions. If you're interested, let me know! $10 a person and I can manage 5 people at a time - I will make it super easy and I can come to you! I'll set up and clean up - just need a table or floor space.

For some inspiration here are some pictures of from my boyfriend and I's carving session earlier this week. :) We sure are goofy!

And it all begins

I am new at this official #smallbusiness thing but I am excited!

A bit about me: I was a teacher for two years in Duval County, I currently work part time at my alma mater the University of North Florida (swoop!) and love to create things and get out in the community.

I have taught art, math, dabbled in yearbook, tried to coach softball and just walked as Maid of Honor in my sister's beautiful wedding this weekend, where my fantastic boyfriend managed to secure some leave and spend the time with us.

My business Chelsea Rose Art is a hub for my art services, including art classes, creative experiences and also commissions of your ideas and sales of my original artwork and production of graphic design for ads and small publications.

I look forward to sharing my story with you and learning about what my clientele and supporters are looking for. Hopefully we can be a part of each other's creative lives.
